Pune: A day after relaxations from lockdown were implemented, many shops apart from the essential services opened up but saw less customer footfall.

Citizens stepping out for shopping were seen wearing masks on Tuesday but social distancing rules were not followed. Many citizens were seen spitting after consuming gutkha and paan - sale of which is banned in the lockdown 5.0 phase too. 

 To prevent coronavirus outbreak, the strict lockdown was imposed from March month itself. Only essential services were allowed in phase 1 and 2 of the nationwide lockdown. Citizens were asked not to step out of their house unless for essential and medical reasons. Social distancing was seen as the only way to prevent coronavirus spread. However, phase-wise relaxations were given in the subsequent lockdown extensions. 

Roads in various parts of the city are back to 'normal' stage and witnessing traffic snarls at different locations. Citizens shopping at Mandai and other marketplaces are not following social distancing norms. Hygiene and cleanliness are important factors while fighting the war against corona but some citizens are not taking necessary precautions. 

Citizens are still hesitant to visit nonessential services outlets like clothes, footwear, general stores, gift shoppers and kitchen appliances.

Dnyaneshwar Molak, Head of Solid Waste Management department of Pune Municipal Corporation said, "It is expected that citizens should follow physical distancing norms strictly. They should not spit on the roads. PMC has made a provision to act against such individuals and collect a fine of Rs 500 from them."
